ManCat Monday - In Memorium

Derby, The SassyCat

10/20/2003 to 12/27/2014

Gotcha'd 5/7/2005

Blogging Debut 11/3/2005

Your life consisted of 4,086 days of which you graced me with your presence for 3,521 of those days over 86% of your life. I expected it to be a longer period of time, but that was not to be.

I fell in love with you from your shelter picture and never looked back. You had such a cute look even on your shelter picture, to which you got a nickname, Smiley Boy, from Calico Mom Toni. The little white
stripe on your forehead and your two toned nose made you even more special.

While you had a bit of a catitude towards things, like vet visits, you were still a loving mancat at home. Always looking for a handout, treats to mooch, human food to taste or sneak off my plate. You weren’t a lap cat, but would sit nearby so as not to miss out on anything. You were always around, making sure things were good.
I know you weren’t thrilled when I brought Ducky into our lives, but you adapted. My two ginger men getting into adventures and mischief, but never bad enough to warrant any punishment. You have trained Ducky well and have left me in his capable paws. We will both miss you, and with each other get through not having you around.

I hope you enjoyed your life while you were here. The big sunny windows, bird watching, napping by the heating vents, exploring the dungeon, catching the occasional mouse, guarding the house in my absence. You were indulged with chick-hen, roast beast and other human goodies. You loved getting your share and often trying to get more than your share.

It isn’t only my heart that is empty when you left us. The outpouring of love to us these past few days has been overwhelming and comforting. Your pals and their beans are hurting too. None of us do well when you furkids take off to The Bridge on short notice.
The power and reach of the internet made you and many other cats household names. We just had to check out the adventures of you and your “furiends”, celebrating birthdays, parties and the unique Cat Blogosphere special days. Heck, you had a whole month “TockTober” for your birth month! Oh the adventures you could get into, all without leaving the comfort of your own home.

I knew you were beginning to show some age, but you were still active right up to the end. Getting a bit thin, but you were eating. Those last couple of days you looked so thin and then didn’t want to eat. Although in reading after the fact about renal failure, there were a few things I wished I had known. You loved to drink and that should have been a clue, but I didn’t catch it. The scale at the vet showed that when you were down to just under seven pounds even with everything you ate. That last night, you even slept on my bed, resting on me. That was so not the real you. I figure it was your way to let me know you loved me, you were ready to go if needed and things would be OK.
So Derby, Derbikins, Derbs, you will be missed. Have fun at The Bridge with all the gang who has gone before. I love you and will miss you. Someday we shall meet again.
 Derby Sweetheart Cat!
To celebrate your life, nothing would be complete without a good send off. So as I read in a recent obituary "the celebration will continue until everyone is happy". Enjoy everyone.

Caturday - Updated

Updated 4:30 PM Central - Derby was helped to The Bridge a little more than an hour ago.  He was in renal failure and the vet gave a poor prognosis. Farewell my dear boy.

HiYa, Ducky here. It has been strange around here the past day. Mum locked me out of her sleepy spot last night but let Derby be in there.

Mum says Derby is not feeling well. A trip to our regular vet man Dr M, then he sent them off to the 'mergency vet man.

So can we please have purrs for my bro Derby. Thanks.

No White Christmouse

No snow here for Christmouse, mum went out and took pics of our trees without snow.

Plus we did have sunshine yesterday, we all were happy, specially mum who rarely gets to see the sun. If she is day hunting she can't even see it out the windows.
Early yesterday mum helped us open our Secret Santa prezzies. Good stuff from Kitty Cat Chronicles.
Lots of little packages, one each for Derby and Ducky. Derby got a red bow tie.
Ducky a blue one, we thinks they are made to go on collars, but we don't wear collars, so we may not wear them. But we have them but if we need to get formal, we have the bow ties.

Big red crinkly ball, picked it right up. Mum didn't even have time to get the tag off yet!
A little hedgehog that mum could fill with nip, so mum got it all full and I took over.
Whap it here and whap it there.
Whoops all the way to the floor.
Down with the wrapping paper, which is also fun to play with.

Attack!
Whoops, let the little hedgehog behind! Papers were fun to play with too.
Thanks Kitty Cat Chronicles, we are going to have so much fun to play with all this stuff!

Garden Thursday - Christmouse Edition

Merry Christmas to All

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, (because he was of the house and lineage of David,) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Luke 2: 1-20 (KJV)

Red-nosed Reincat

Derby, the red-nosed reincat
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.

All of the other reincats used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Derby

join in any reincat games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve

Santa came to say:

Derby with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reincats loved him
as they shouted out with glee, Derby the red-nosed reincat,
you'll go down in history!

Tempting!

So mum put our Secret Paws packages on the music thing. Just sitting here guarding them. Making sure they don't go anywhere.
Counting to make sure they are all there, one, two, twelve, six, G.....
Darn, lost count, gotta get a closer work. Mum you are driving us crazy with this!
So we will drive you crazy, try to keep playing with your yarns while you work on the blankie!

Mum was watching Mr Peyton last night and the feetball game, but she was tired and went to get her sleeps before the game was over. Plus she work so much on the blankie her shoulder was a bit hurty, so time to give it a rest.

ManCat Monday

"Cats are smarter than dogs. You can't get eight cats to pull a sled through snow." - Jeff Valdez

Although right now we have no snow for Santa to get through. The weather guessers are saying maybe a bit of snow on Christmouse Eve.

Speaking of the Eve Day, iffen you are home and looking for something to do, there is our online party. Iffin you do Twitter you can be there or they get a chat room set up and interact there. Lots of fun, anycat can come. We plan to be there!

Mum opened the Secret Paw box yesterday, BUT we didn't get to open the rest of the little packages inside. Mum says that will be done on Christmouse Day. Phooey,

OOOOh, we know we have another wand toy, that didn't get wrapped, but the rest? Who knows.
Derby checking the stuff out. Then mum stuffed them on top of the music playing thing.
Thanks gang from Kitty Cat Chronicles.
Mum worked hard on the blankie, she hopes to be done with it before the end of the year. With feetsball games to watch Caturday night, Sunday and then later tonight, she is making progress.
Derby hanging on mums left elbow, she works the hook with her right, but making sure she is working hard and doing it right.

Feetsball Report

The Pack - they won, beating the Tampa Buc's. This means the Pack will be in the playoffs. Next weeks game will decide if they get a home game or not. The Pack didn't play all that well, mum was even calling the coaches idjits at one point for running the same not working play three times in a row right at the goal line and then they didn't score. Good thing they won.

The Broncos - they play on Monday night which means mum can watch.
