Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Last week on Friday I finished my 181st book, which was the total of last year. So a new record coming up? Can I hit 200?

This batch I got a bunch of books that were on my list with authors or series that I wanted to try. Mixed success.

The only book I actually made it through was An Amateur Corpse by Simon Brett. I had liked his Mrs Pargeter series and decided to try another written by him. I made it through the book, but it seemed so dated. The book was originally published in the 1970's and I guess I couldn't relate. No plans to read more in the series.

The others I didn't care for and since they were the first books in a series, I won't be going any further. Lots of books so if one doesn't catch your interest, just move on to the next one. With my long list of books to try, I doubt I will run out of books to read.

 Happy Reading!

Mini-ManCat Monday

The ideal of calm exists in a sitting cat. - Jules Reynard

Just me sitting and doing a bit of bathing. Mum was watching the feetsball game, I ignored that and did my cleaning.

It was box weekend here. Three boxes showed up and two of them had stuff for me! Yep, mum now gets my food delivered. The other one had yarn for mum. Sheesh, she has a closet full of yarn but she always buys more.

Feetsball Report

The Pack -  it was a crazy scoring game. The Eagles scored, we scored, kicks were missed. That was just the first half. Second half, ARodg finally admitted he was hurting enuf to get out of the game. The bad thumb, he finally admitted was broken.

So the backup guy came in an promptly scored a touchdown with a throw. They got it close to one score but time ran out. Maybe it is time for some more Love!

Played much better in Prime Time this week, even if they did finally lose.

Have a happy week. December starts later this week.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

A trip to the library but no books, just movies.

The Downton Abbey: A New Era was the new 2022 movie. I had seen it in the theater back in May, but wanted to see it again. I also like to see the extras that they usually have on most DVD's.

West Side Story I had seen at a friend's house earlier this year. The one thing I remembered was that it was hard to hear the dialog and I put that to the fact my friend doesn't really like higher volume.

But no, even with my DVD player and TV sound turned up, and a sound bar, it still was hard to hear and understand the dialog. Music was fine. It got to the point I stopped the movie and turned on the sub-titles.

Also, there were no extras on the DVD. No interview with cast, director etc. What a bummer!

My library has a nice selection of movies and TV shows on DVD, so I can catch up as needed.

Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. We all need to be thankful for what we have every day.

Happy Reading!

Mini-ManCat Monday

Anything not nailed down is a cat toy.

Yep, yarn, pens, stuff on the kitch-hen counter. I luvs it when mum forgets to put a ball of yarn away. She will wake up to yarn all over the house!

Pretty good huh? This was all from one night! MOL, that will teach her.

The super cold is supposed to go away, maybe the snow will melt that we got on Tuesday. Mum didn't have to shovel, but she had to pull out the really warm jacket to wear outside and the heavy mittens too.

Plus she has me and her latest blankie to keep her warm inside.

Feetsball Report

The Pack -  they played last Thursday and the Not Ready for Prime Time Packers showed up. So they lost, mum wasn't even yelling at the moving picture box. She just kept working on the crow-shay. Mum didn't even watch any of the Sunday games, she didn't care! They are not a good team this year.

Happy week every one. Happy Turkey Day to those here in Mericky!

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Just a couple of books this time. One book I was on a wait list, the other was on the Lucky Day shelf.

The Sweetness of Forgetting is a story of a grandmother, her granddaughter and great granddaughter and their history. What they thought it was and what it was really. Takes a history trip to Paris during World War II and how the Holocaust affected lives.

Midnight in Washington another Trump era book by Congressman Adam Schiff. The first part of the book was how he got to be in Congress, but after it got to the impeachment stuff I zoned out. Too much of the same topic and I didn't finish the book.

I do read read deep subject matter books. History, biography especially. Some politics like the above.

Mini-ManCat Monday

As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat. - Ellen Perry Berkeley

Yeah, I have a mum, not an owner! Mum loves me lots and I loves her back. It decided to be winter. It was all super nice through Thursday, then pow! All cold.

Mum even got the pretty lights out for Christ-mouse while the weather was warm. She won't need to freeze her fingers to put them up.

Mum has been good, getting the last of the leaves to the street and a final mowing. She still has one section left to do. This is what you see below. She needs to get this done, we are supposed to get white stuff on the ground this week.

Here are the pics of the done sections. The back with the fevver feeders look purrty good. The side yard too but the pic is a bit foggy cuz of the window.

Snoopervising was exhausting. Mum worked so many days this last week to finish cutting stuff down, working the leaves and mowing. She will be happy when this is done and she can rest!

Later I sat on mum, she watched the feetsball game and worked on her latest blankie.

Feetsball Report

The Pack -  the old coach showed up with a new team. For a while it looked liked they might win the game. The Pack came back to tie it at the end so they needed OT to figure it out. The Pack won! Ended their losing streak. Quick week, then next game is on Thursday night!

Have a wonderful week!

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

I started with the book on Watergate. Detailed and interesting. I think mentioned earlier that this was the time when I could start voting since they lowered the voting age. Unlike a previous book, King Richard, this one goes into more details of the before, during and after the initial break in at the Watergate.

The Jennifer Hawkins book I thought was related to a previous book I had read, but it was not. So I must have confused the author. I did, I have now found the correct author and series I was thinking about.

The Stolen Lady primarily is a fictional account of the Louvre staff moving paintings, focusing on the Mona Lisa, during World War 2 to keep them from the Nazi, but it also shows the backstory of the creation of the painting with DaVinci.

Bagpipes. Brides and Homicides, the latest installment of a murder mystery series.

The Life Intended is an interesting book of a woman widowed at an early age and her life thereafter, including actions that were set in motion by her late husband.

Totally Pawstruck, the latest of the Second Chance Cat Mysteries.

Mini-ManCat Monday

Kittens are born with their eyes shut. They open them in about six days, take a look around, then close them again for the better part of their natural lives. - Stephen Baker

Yeah, some days there isn't much to look at, or stuff I don't wanna see. Mum feels the same way lately with all of the poly-tick ads. Thank goodness election day is Tuesday. So if you live in Mericky and can vote, but haven't yet, go VOTE!

Mum has been recording most of her shows, then she can skip all of the ads. The other day she went out early in the evening. When she came home we watched a show on woody peckers. We see woody peckers in our yard at the feeders but not the one in this pic. The show interested me so much I actually got off of mum's lap to watch!

Mum is doing good on her fall chores. A little more to cut down, so maybe a couple of days worth of work. Plus the leaves. At least the leaves are down now. We had a storm over the weekend. Lots of rain, 3 inches in our measuring thing. Plus wind for a long time and it was super strong, gusts over the 40-50 mph.

Mum pulled the hour out of the clocks this weekend. She got them all done with the exception of the metal monster. She will change that one once she uses it again either today or tomorrow.

Feetsball Report

The Pack - PEEE UUUU. Stick a fork in them, they are done! Yeah they have had injuries, people that aren't super experienced, but ARodg isn't what he was in the past either. Mum says they should give the other guy Love a chance. ARodg is getting older and doesn't seem to be as good as he used to be.

Crashcar finished yesterday too. Mum was happy cuz her favorite driver won the championship. WooHoo. Way to go Joey!

Have a good week and go vote!

Blogoversary

It was way back when in 2005, long before I was even borned, that Derby started to blog. I had mum count and she says that is 17 years ago.

Wow. Lots of time, lots of furiends old and new. Mum says so many of the original gang has all run off to The Bridge.

Here is Derby's first post. Plus here is the first pic of him as well. Gee. I don't amember that table.

So Happy Blogoversary to me!

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Welcome to November. Less than a week until election day. Maybe we will get a few days respite from ads before people start hammering away at the presidential race or complaining about this one!

Spook by Mary Roach, one of her researches into what happens to our souls when we die. Do they have weight? I think I have read all of her books now. I think the two on sex and cadavers were the most interesting.

Scotched, one of the installments of the Liss MacCrimmon series. Cute murder rom-com set in Maine. Someone going to expose this small town as a hot bed for murder, so she gets murdered.

Baggage by Alan Cumming, the actor. This is his second memoir, the first, Not My Father's Son, dealt on his relationship with his father. This second is more on his early professional life. He has more to write about, he leaves off before he gets to his time on The Good Wife and other more recent projects.

Last book, The Girl Behind the Wall, is a novel of identical sisters who get separated when the Berlin Wall is erected at short notice. One sister had entered East Berlin for a get together and been hospitalized with appendicitis on the day the wall went up. How they managed to stay in touch when it wasn't easy to stay in touch.

That either means the book is boring and I should find a different book to read. Or, I need a nap!
