Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

First, Happy Library Week! I've been a library patron for most of my life and know that my life is better for having a wonderful library in my community. I served as a member of the strategic planning committee in 2007-2008, then was a library trustee for 10 years from 2009-2019. I term limited myself, I figured 10 years was enough, time to give others a say.

An evening pick up of books, due to the fact I was at the library for Trivia Night! Books checked out, the DVD on top I won. How did I win? I identified a song based on the first two seconds of a song. It happened that I was thinking of the song that could be identified like that. The song, A Hard Day's Night by the Beatles. That first chord is iconic!

Claws for Suspicion as I started in on this book is seemed so familiar, yep I had read it last year. A duplicate I didn't catch on my list.

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library an ice fisherman is found dead in his shanty during a fishing jamboree. Was he killed by a fellow fisherman or someone else?

The Clutter Corpse is a newer series from author Simon Brett. I liked his Mrs Pargeter series. In this one the main character is a person who helps people clear up messy houses. In one place she was hired she finds a body. Lots of interesting and weird twists to the story.

Island of Sweet Pies and Soldiers story set in Hawaii in 1944. I tried twice to get into this story but didn't, so won't be reading the rest of the series.

This Side of Murder is a newer series by author Anna Lee Huber who also has the Lady Darby series. Story is set in the immediate post World War One time frame. Our heroine, Verity Kent, is invited to an engagement party of someone who had served with her late husband in the war. Then some of the people at the party are being killed. Why?

When She Was Good is the second Cyrus Haven book, first was Good Girl, Bad Girl. A thriller and a page turner, we begin to find out more on Evie and what happened to her.

The Messenger is a book written by a Wall Street Journal reporter on Moderna. How the company was founded, their journey using messenger RNA to make their Covid vaccine. How mRNA works etc. Gave a good deal of information on how they worked through things, the various phases of the clinical trials.

Truly, Madly a book on the relationship of Vivian Leigh and Laurence Olivier. It gives you info on their early lives, but concentrates on the years they were together.

 Happy Reading.

Mini-ManCat Monday

I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals. - Winston Churchill

Old Winston did have a cat while he was in office, and now there is a ginger boy living at his old home, Chartwell, per his request. Jock VII is in charge now. Even better, the kit is a rescue.

Mum ordered in some Chinese food on Caturday but she didn't share since she said there was onjun in the foods and you know we kits can't have onjun's.

Just chilling in the front window a good spot to get the early morning sun. Plus I can keep an eye on mum. What is mum up to? Reading, crow-shay, helping out the fevvers, keeping them fed. Here is her latest blankie.

That is is from here! See you next week.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Photo bomb by my favorite furry guy.

We went from nice spring to summer weather last week, then Sunday came with cold rain and into Monday snow showers locally. People in western Wisconsin had 6-12 inches of snow in some places. Good days to curl up with a cat and book.

No Way Out a thriller by Andrea Kane. A teacher is worried about one of her students who happens to be the son of the mayor.

A Perilous Perspective the latest Lady Darby book. Someone seems to have replaced priceless art works with some not so good fakes. Someone who knows something is killed. The killer wasn't who I though it would be!

A Green and Ancient Light is a Sci-Fi / Fantasy book and an genre I usually don't read. But this was an interesting story of a young boy sent to live with his grandmother in the country during the war. His adventures in the woods discovering a sacred grove of ruins.

Good Girl, Bad Girl a therapist, Cyrus Haven, gets involved with helping one institutionalized teen, when asked to help research why another teen is killed. The killed teen is a promising figure skater and a supposed good girl. Did she go bad? The other girl Evie seems to be hiding her past. Why?

The Cartographers is a story of a daughter trying to understand why her father died and the meaning of what appears to be an ordinary old gasoline station road map. Lots of twists and I found it interesting.

Sandy Hook is written by a New York Times reporter who looks into the continued abuse of the families of the murdered children by Alex Jones and other deniers. Book was written before the latest court case verdicts against Jones.

Mother Daughter Traitor Spy, from the author of the Maggie Hope series. Mom and daughter take on infiltrating the German American Bund in Los Angeles, which is a cover for Nazi operations.

Happy Reading.

Mini-ManCat Monday

On the Internet, nobody knows you're a cat.

Sure you know I am a cat, but maybe some might think I am made up. Nope, not made up!

Mum did her first racy weekend.  She got home and is super tired. The only weekend she does all three days. I am sitting and purring on her to make her feel better.

This was her view on Sunday, lots of raindrops and the weather guessers are saying snow from Sunday night to Monday. Sheesh, it was purrfect weather this last week.

Sheesh, guess mum and I will need to cuddle up today!

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

A single book checkout. I put a hold on the book in late November and I was the forth person on the hold list. I finally got the book on January 20. Must have been some slow readers ahead of me! Taking my time it took me all of three days to read it.

The latest installment of the Amish Candy Shop mysteries. Who messed up to kill they guy with the peanut allergy?

Yes, depends on the book and what else is going on. At home I usually have a quiet house, but sometimes there is music. I can read in public too, but don't do that much anymore. When I travel I always have a paperback with me, something I have picked up second hand. If I lose it, I don't care. Can read in waiting rooms, airport spaces, on the plane.

The latest lap robe done but with it getting warmer I won't be working on lap robes for much longer. It gets hot with a lap full of yarn!

Happy Reading.

Mini-ManCat Monday

Cats don't have owners. They have caretakers!

Hope everyone had a nice Easter. Me and mum did! She cooked a nice roast beast along with baked potato. Plus she was so into eating it that she didn't take a pic! Yep, I got a taste too.

The weather is getting super nice too. Mum is letting the windows open more, even the bid windows that go to the floor. The front window too. Mum even got a moovie of me in the window!

Yeah, mum takes really good care of me. Good foods, toys, play time and lots and lots of loves!

I helped mum watched the ball game, they have been winning lots this year so far.

Mum spent some time outside yesterday too doing some easy yard work. Picking up sticks that fell from the trees. Plus she says she can see the leaves starting to come out on the lilac and four-sith-ia. It may look like spring soon too, not just on the temp side with open window weather.

Here are two of our crocus blooms too.

So everyone have a wonderful week.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

This was my first check out of the year. Yeah, only 5 books!

Verse and Vengeance, the fourth book in the Magical Bookshop mysteries. Our heroine fesses up to her chief of police boyfriend about her bookshop and the magic it contains.

Run For Your Life is a stand alone book by Andrea Kane. I like her series of Forensic Instinct books, so I thought I would try one of her other books. I was a bit put off when I saw the Romance sticker on the spine. Truth is I would not consider this a romance novel. Thriller, suspense, with sex is a better description. One sister searching for another in a private medical clinic, lots of family secrets!

Number One Chinese Restaurant is a story of a family and their restaurant along with a large cast of additional characters.

Off the Edge is a look at those who believe in conspiracy theories, from a flat earth to election deniers, those who will believe in most anything, regardless of proof. Think Donald Trump and Alex Jones.

The Trials of Harry S Truman is a book primarily about what he went through during his years as president. It does also give a short recap of this life before and after his presidency. Interesting as I had not read much in regards to Truman prior to this. I had done some reading in regards to the Korean War and his dealings with MacArthur.

Stage 6, not that I never had a stage of no books, but did have a period where I didn't read as much. Too busy with working and living life to read as much. I also haven't been a hoarder!

Happy Reading.

Mini-ManCat Monday

I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little they become its visible soul. - Jean Cocteau

Happy April everyone. The last of the snow in our yard went away on Friday, we had thunderbooming storms, the for a bit on Caturday morning the snow flakes flied but didn't stick. Snow is still on the big piles, but mum hopes we are done with the white stuff for many months.

Mum moved the griller machine out to where she can use it, but hasn't actually grilled anything. Soon she says! Burgers for all.

The basey ball season has started, so mum watched a bit of the home town team games. Lots of sports this weekend. Basketball, racy cars too. Which means mum sits and I can sit on her.

Mum doing her usual crow-shay, the latest color. Sheesh mum you don't ever stop, well, unless she is doing the book reading stuff.

Everyone have a wonderful week.
