Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Most of the snow that we got a couple of weeks ago has melted. We have had warmer than average temperatures and some rain. Minimal sunshine although this past Monday was sunny. It was nice to get out and get some rays!

Made it to the last day of January, which always seems like such a long month. Guess it is the cold, darker and snowy days. No more holidays to celebrate.

It is still good reading weather. Can't get out and do any gardening or other yard work. I did get the arbor vitae more or less upright after the snow melted off of it. At least it didn't break off. Will have to see how well it gets back to being straight. First pic is from January 27 when still bent down with snow. Next one is on January 28 after the snow had melted off of it AND with me pushing it up and using bungee cords to hold it a bit straighter.

On to the books for this week.

Death in the Vines several women are killed, including an older lady found in a vineyard. Are the murders related?

Summer of Blood the continuing story of the end of the Plantagent rulers in England. In 1381, the lower classes fed up by continuing poll taxes that hit them the worst rebel against King Richard III. The rebellion is put down with lots of blood flowing in the streets.

Baptism by Fire the author chose eight presidents, Washington, Jefferson, Tyler, Lincoln, FDR, Truman, Kennedy and Ford to profile. The book gives mini biography of their lives as well as an overview of their presidency. Doesn't just focus on one crisis, which is what I was expecting.

Mini-ManCat Monday

How we behave toward cats here below determines our status in heaven. - Robert A. Heinlein

Mum treats me super good, so I guess they will let her into heaven some day. We had a good time yesterday snuggling in her sleepy spot. I purr and she snores, well softly!

Me sitting on mum while she tried to do the crow-shay while she watched the feetsball games this weekend. I also watched fevvers with her, and they are doing good. Mum keeps foods out for them and the weather isn't as cold this week. Lots of melting so the snow isn't as deep.

Me sitting on mum the other night. I loves to sit on her boobities!

Feetsball Report

Down to the last two teams for the Stouper Bowl. KC will return to try to win it two years in a row. Mum was a bit bummed that the Lions didn't win, they did lead for most of the game, but the Niners came back to win. Lions are the only team that has NEVER played in the Stouper Bowl.

Have a good week everyone.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Winter has decided to be a little calmer this past week. The bitter cold is gone, no massive snowfalls either. Some melting, a small bit of sun and one day of freezing drizzle with a bit of snow, which then melted. Thankfull I didn't have to go anywhere that day.

Although the melting and freezing stuff is making the back yard a bit treacherous. I have to be super careful and am using my shovel as a walking stick to help me keep my balance. The good thing is that with the warmer weather the birds don't eat quite as much. Can fill the feeders every other day instead of daily.

But it is great stay inside and read weather.

Read and Buried our Lighthouse Librarians find a tin box buried at the lighthouse during the repairs. A diary, map and notes in code. Map to treasures or something else. Someone thinks its important and murders for it.

Easter Bonnet Murder things get rather competitive at the local nursing home and the bonnet being made. Does that include murder?

My Life in Pictures Patti Boyd is mostly pictures of her life, from her modeling career, with spouses George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Plus pictures taken by Patti herself.

Mini-ManCat Monday

After scolding one's cat one looks into its face and is seized by the ugly suspicion that it understood every word. And has filed it for reference.- Charlotte Gray

Another week and things are going OK. I thinks the worst of the really cold stuff is gone, but all that white stuff is still outside.

No more stuff to shovel, but mum has to go out and feed the fevvers. With all the cold they eat lots. One day she was putting stuff out and took a funky step and ended up in the snow. She didn't get hurt, but she had to crawl to the seed storage cans in order to get up. She needs help getting up from the snow.

Mum didn't even take any new pics this past week. So recycling last weeks as this is about what I did. Nap, sit on mum during the feetsball game and other times too.

Mum found out she has a new grand neice, born on Caturday. Her name is Luna. She was super excited to start her life she came three weeks early. Mom, Dad and baby all doing well.

Feetsball Report

The Pack - they played well against the Niners, they were even leading for a part of the game. Sadly they losted so are done playing for this season. They did a whole lot better than people, including mum, thought they would. Beware of them next season!

The rest of the playoff teams are set. The Lions will play the Niners. Mum is happy about that.

On the other side the reigning Stouper Bowl champs will play the Ravens.

Overall me and mum had a quiet week. You all have a good week.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Been an interesting last week. Our winter up through early last week had minimal snow and we had no snow on the ground on Monday. Starting on Tuesday we had snow, again on Wednesday night and again all day Friday into Saturday.

Enough already. I would rather have had a dozen snowfalls of 2-3 inches over the past 6 weeks than this! My little community got 14.5 inches

So I spent lots of time dealing with snow and not reading a great deal. Even the library closed on Friday and Saturday. Now it is super cold so can stay inside and read! I thought I would have time to read with the snow but spent too much time dealing with it!

Don Rickles: The Merchant of Venom a biography of the late comic who was called "Mr Warmth" by Johnny Carson. He trained as a serious actor and did acting roles, but is remembered more for his comic work.

Rules of Engagement I took this with me when I was in the hospital, didn't get into it at all. Realized it was more as a romance book which I am not into.

The Light We Carry from Michelle Obama on our ability to survive in an uncertain world.

Mini-ManCat Monday

I have studied many philosophers and many cats. The wisdom of cats is infinitely superior. - Hippolyte Taine

Hello from a cold and snowy Whiskerconsin. After I posted on Monday things got interesting in the weather department. After little snow so far this winter we got dumped on. Well, I didn't get dumped on. I stayed inside and let mum deal with it!

This is the driveway, before and after clearing out for the last time on Caturday morning. Mum did most of the flat part and naybors helped with the deep stuff at the end. Mum says enuf!

This is how I spent the time during the snows. In my heaty bed where I was nice and comfortable. Mum has been using a heaty thing on her back too. Too much snow blowing and such. Plus it helps keep her warm.

Feetsball Report

The Pack - WooHoo. The Pack took it to the CowGirls. Scored early and often and were leading by 32 points at one point. They won by 16! Plus they beat the old GB coach and mum is happy about that. Not sure what day they will play next weekend, but they will play the SF Niners.

Now the last time they won the Stouper Bowl they won the wild card game like they did here. Could miracles happen twice?

 Have a wonderful week everyone.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

Winter weather has actually arrived as of yesterday. Wet slushy snow to start, then just snow later. Worked to get the slush off before it could freeze on the pavement. Plus after the plow went through to get the mess out of the end of the driveway. Had that done by about 2 PM.

Will have to clear off the snow that fell later on Wednesday, but that I can probably do with the snow blower and do it quickly. Supposed to get more snow and be really cold next week too.

Okay, winter weather means time to read and watch stuff on Netflix.

itch Way Out - Violet is asked to participate as a vendor in the Spring Equinox Fair. Then the main organizer is found dead by Violet. Who done him in?

An Untidy Death is the second installment of the Decluttering Mysteries. Ellen is tasked with giving an opinion if a living space is hazardous. She thinks no, but later the place goes up in flames, killing the occupant. Accident or murder? Plus a new admirer for Violet.

Intrigue in Istanbul the latest Jane Wunderly mystery. She returns home to Boston to introduce her man to her father. When she arrives she finds out he has taken a huge loan with their home as collateral and the loan is due. Her father is in Istanbul searching for a long missing relic. Jane and her man go there to find out what is going on.

The Killing Code Kit Sutherland isn't who she appears to be. She is hired by the government to work as an analyst decoding messages in World War II. Then she and some of her fellow analyst also start to hunt for the person who is killing government worker girls. The truth hits close to home.

Mini-ManCat Monday

Cats. They just don't follow the rules. ~ Elizabeth A. Reeves

Rules? What rules!? MOL.

Mum did lots of stuff this past week making the Christmouse stuff go away. All the trees got packed up and taken back to the dungeon. Mum even got a nice enuf day to take down the outside lights. It was sunny and not too windy so she didn't get cold.

So things look a bit bare back by my heaty bed, but now my heaty bed is gone too! Mum took it apart and washed it. She said I had yak'd on it bad and it needed to be cleaned.

All nice and washed but I am not so sure about an all clean bed.

I did briefly sit in it after it got cleaned, but I spent most of my afternoon here!

You can see a little bit of snow in one of the pics above but we are supposed to get our first really big snow on Tuesday.

Feetsball Report

The Pack -  they did it, they made the playoffs! They beat Da Bears again! We still own you! The Pack is the youngest team to EVER make the playoffs. JLove and company will have their work cut out for them, they play the old coach and the Cowboys next weekend. Mum found out the game will be on Sunday in the late afternoon.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Wonderful Wordy Wednesday

I finished 2023 with 177 books. I thought I had already done 177 and had one more to do, but I had already counted the one I was working on. Plus listening to lots of good music. Christmas and otherwise.

First trip to the library yesterday. My usual in and out, return my book, pick up the new BookPage, check the lucky day shelf and then the circulation desk to get my holds.

Lunch while going through BookPage, off to the Y to get exercise. Only then could I sit and read!

Weather has turned colder, but still no snow on the ground!

The Milky Way: An Autobiography is written by a PhD in astrophysics and did her undergrad work in astronomy and mythology. An interesting but at times a little deep. Written as if the author was the Milky Way.

Liquid Rules interesting in that did you know that peanut butter is actually a liquid? Fun things on all liquids.

Storm in a Teacup written by a physicist who conveys in an interesting way on why things do what they do. Why waves do what they do, bubbles and how they work. Why popcorn pops and other fun things.

They Knew the author's premise is that the US has a culture of conspiracy and that keeps the population complacent. Not sure I agree but she does present some interesting facts. Conspiracy, conspiracy theories on 9/11, QAnon, Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, criminal elite. One thing she said is that American is rotting from within, that I think I can agree with.

Mini-ManCat Monday Happy Mew Year!

If God created man in his own image, you've got to wonder; in whose image did he create the nobler cat? - Unknown

So far, so good for this year. Me and mum have been eating good the past week or so with the holly-daze. Ham, duck, fish, roast beast, chick-hen or was that turkey? Oh well, all good!

Mum hasn't watch too much of the moving picture box with all of the feetsball games, even during the middle of the week.

She will be watching the rosy purr-ade, but online like last year. From a TV station in LaLa Land without commercials! Just search KTLA! They even put it on their YouTube channel for later viewing.

Me chilling the last few days of the past year. Mum was having a hard time doing the crow-shay with me sitting on it. She finally just gave up and gave me lots of love.

Feetsball Report

The Pack - they beat the ViQueens at the ViQueens stadium. Next week they play Da Bears and I guess if they win they will make the playoffs. Pretty good for the youngest team in the league.

They announced the game time for next week. Mum was hoping for noon, but no it will be a late afternoon game. Mum says at least it isn't Sunday night like this week.

Happy 2024, hope all have a wonderful new year.
