Throw Back Thursday

All is purrty quiet around here. Mum's foot is still a bit sore, she is doing sitting stuff like her crow-shay and reading.

Mum paid to get the car all clean again after hauling off all the fall clean up for the plants. Now she says it can get icky with snow and stuff for a few months.

Today's Throw Back takes us back to Thursday November 26, 2008, afor I landed here, so it was just Derby here at the time. Plus that was Thanksgiving Day that year. Grampie was alive so mum would have spent the day with him and eaten her turkey dinner at his place.

Thursday November 28, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. A fun story to relate on our Mericky holiday Thanksgiving. I had e-mailed this out to those of you I have e-mails for, but thought it so good, I needed to share with all.
Recently I received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.
Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

I tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else I could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, I was fed up and I yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. I shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. So, in desperation, I threw up my hands, grabbed the bird and
put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that I'd hurt the parrot, I quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto my outstretched arms and said: "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

I was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As I was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving Day. Mum is not cooking a bird for me or us as it would be, but she did bring home some cooked turkey from the store tonight.

Travel safe, don't drink and drive, try not to overeat too much. Be kind to your relatives, you can get through one day with them and they with you. We all have lots to be thankful for, so just 'Give Thanks'.

ManCat Monday

There are few things in life more heartwarming than to be welcomed by a cat. - Tay Hohoff

Derby was the greeter around here. He would sit in the front window until he saw mum drive the metal monster in the drive. Then he would hop down and meet her at the door. I think he was really hoping to escape and get outside, MOL!

Me and mum had a quiet rest of the weekend. She cook a huge batch of onion soup which I can't have, but mum says the house smelled good. She likes onions.

Plus we kept waiting for the snow to come and well, the storm stayed away for us. We did get a little bit, but nothing like about 50 miles south of us. They had lots of snow, wind, so a bee-lizard!

Mum worked on her crow-shay, she hasn't done much on it lately, so she figures she better get working on it. I helped!
Plus mum losted the toe nail on the foot that she hurt way back on her trip. She says it stings a lot and even wearing socks is hurty. We made the pics small, who wants to really look at a wonky toe!

Feetsball Report

The Pack played on Sunday night against the ViQueens. Like the way they play all year, good in the first half, not so much in the second. So they losted and mum figures they won't be in the playoffs. She also thinks it is time for a new coach!

Have a good week everyone.

Caurday

HiYa Ducky here, Happy Caturday. I hope my Mericky furiends had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Mum was home until early afternoon, so we had lots of time to cuddle together and we watched a bit of feetsball too.

Then she headed off to her furiends house where she normally goes on T-Day. Plus since it is a bit of a drive she stays overnight. She took a few new pics of the birds cooking. See they do duck and not turkey. So six smallish birds instead on one big one. Two grills going and the hair dryer provides air to get the coals hot faster for cooking.
Inside while the birds were cooking there was lots of nibbles. Most everyone brought something to share with the rest of the gang. Mum's caramel and peanut coated grapes are at the upper right..
A closeup of mum's nibbles. She said they ate about half of them and she came home with the remainders. So she can have them to nibble on at home.

So the six ducks are done and the nibbles cleared for space. The skin gets all crispy but the meat stays juicy from the fat. So you get both sides.
The first duck getting carved. Mum says they usually stand there like vultures to get pieces of the skin. Since there were so many peoples there (18) that they shooed peoples away for room. Not to worry, there was lots of meat pieces with skin on them in the service dish, so mum got her fair share.
She came home on Friday morning and just hung out with me, not doing much of anything during the day. The fevver feeders got refilled and a guy came to blow the leaves off of our roof, then he nicely also cleaned off the patio and front porch for us.
Mum also started with the peanut brittle for the year. She says she is going to make less this year. Not as many people to give batches too. Or she gives them smaller batches. She caught me licking some butter off the sheet! Oh well, good thing I am so cute, she forgives me!
Happy rest of the weekend guys.

Happy Thanksgiving

Me and mum want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving to those in Mericky. Have a wonderful day, be kind to your family, try not to eat too much.
Mum will be off to spend part of the day with her furiends and eat duck! Not me, the fevver kind. Here is a pic from a few years ago of the all roasted and done ducks.
Me, well I will be my at my cutest and mum promises she has some turkey for me to cellybrate the day.

ManCat Monday

One reason cats are happier than people is that they have no newspapers. - Gwendolyn Brooks

Mum only get an actual newsy paper twice a week now. Otherwise she reads it on line, says it is easier to skip all the weird, stupid stuff they put in to fill out the paper. Plus all the dumb adverts.

I am not much for watching the moving picture box, but now and then I do. Recently there was some good nature shows on about wild cats and sqwerls. Those I watched and mum caught me in the act. I was even in her lap and we watched together.

That sqwerl sure can jump, we see them jump from tree to tree all the time. They are pretty good leapers! Below is little Billy who was getting released into the big wide world on his own. He was a cute little red sqwerl. Sometimes we see a red sqwerl in our yard too.
Mum doesn't like the sqwerls eating the fevver food, but she does put out something for the sqwerls, a nut and corn log. She just hangs it from the tree with an old hanger!

Mum just hung this out so the haven't found it yet, but I am sure they will get there soon. It is away from the fevver stuff, so they don't disturb our fevvers.

As you can see, we got a little bit more of snow, but it melts quickly and we also have had sun, even though it is cold.

Have a happy week, don't forget turkey day in Mericky this Thursday! Woohoo!

Caturday

HiYa, Ducky here, Happy Caturday. So, another weekend, a bit more snow! We got dustings of snow, both yesterday and today overnight.
Top two pics are from Friday AM, barely enuf to cover the grass and it didn't really stick to the street. The pile of leaves got picked up a few minutes later, so mum managed to get the that mess out of the yard just in time. The snow melted during the day.
So the rest are from Caturday AM, about the same amount of snow as on Friday, not enuf for mum to need to clear.

Didn't really stick again to the drive, but part of the street has snow and you can see the naybor has a tree that still has leaves on it! Plus our four-sith-ia hasn't dropped its leaves either.
Me? I will stay warm by the heaty spot. I loves the warm air blowing below me and helping to keep my belleh all warms.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend.

Garden Thursday

BRRRRRRRRRR. Mum thankfully has us all tucked away. Last weekend it snowed here, mum was in the south for the wedding.
This is the mess in the back yard. Mum says she will be working on the yard today. Blow off the leaves, then mow the grass. She is hoping this will be the end of the outside work on the grass and such.
However the weather guesser says we may get snow late Friday into Caturday, so she better get this done as she may not have a chance to do it later!

Our last Garden Thursday for the year. See you in the spring. Love, Virginger, Glimmer, Trooper and Fleur.

ManCat Monday

A house is not a home without a cat. - Beth Campbell

Mum went away for a few days. Seems the nephew purrson in the family was getting married. Mum feels it is important to show up for significant family events and weddings are those kind of events.

Mum went all out, bought a new dress, shoes and all that jazz. Plus paying to go fly there, rent a car, stay in a hotel etc.I think she cleaned up purrty good.
So a few other things. The happy couple at the rehearsal dinner.

Mum said the cake was good, it had razzberry filling and she loves razzberry.
Mum's grand nieces were the flower girls in their nice dresses and sparkly shoes.
Mum and her brofurs, plus her newer sister-in-law, who is from Beijing China! Mum says the last time they were all together was nearly eight years ago at Grampie's funeral.

I am happy to have mum home. She knows the drill, she gets inside and sits down so I can come and sit on her for a bit. Plus Miss Kellie came over to make sure I was OK, play with me and all that good stuff. She got her kittie fix by coming over to see me. Thanks Miss Kellie.

Feetsball Report

The Pack - they won! Mum got to check on the score as she walked through the airport and they were leading. She got home in time to see the last half.

Have a good week everyone.

Caturday

HiYa, Ducky here. Happy Caturday. It got cold and there was white stuff coming out of the sky. Way too early for that as far as we are concerned.

Bizzy month for the CB. Look at all the badges for stuff. First, tomorrow is Veteran's Day, plus all sorts of other stuff.

So I hope you cellybrate at least one of these days.

Stay warm, happy weekend.

Garden Thursday

Getting colder here, we may even get some snow on Friday. Not much, but still that means that winter isn't very far away.
So to compare the trees over the past week. The top was taken on Sunday October 28, below was taken Wednesday November 7. So pretty much in the past 10 days the leaves are gone from this tree.

Same thing for this maple tree, it is bare of leaves.
Across the street, one of the trees still has leaves on it and is really just beginning to change color too. Below is our locust tree, it is getting much thinner in terms of leaves. The pic was taken yesterday.
You can see the leaves that have fallen from the trees, the top is in the front of the house, below is the patio in the back. Mum will need to get this all cleaned up, but with rain and then snow, mum will wait until next week to hopefully finish the cleanup.
One pretty thing, this is our burning bush in the front of the house. It doesn't get color until it gets sun and it gets way too much shade until the trees drop their leaves.

That is it for this weekend. Mum has tucked us into a safe and warm place for now. See you soon.
