Hope everyone is having a good new year so far. Mine and mum's has been quiet. Mum went to get Grampie and then they watch the Rosey Parade, had lunch and while Grampie napped, mum read.
But the biggest thing that has happened here so far involved Mr Hawk. Mum had just gotten up and out of bed today, and came to sit with me to watch the fevvers outside at the feeders. At the big feeders were mostly doves. Then suddenly Mr Hawk swooped through, caught a dove and took it to the ground! Oh my BAST! Before mum could get the flashy box Mr Hawk took off with the dove in its talons.
Mum and I have never seen the actual moment when Mr Hawk has caught another birdie! We have seen shortly after, with the hawk already having caught its victim. You can go back and see that here. Mum would like to correct that this is a Cooper's Hawk, not a Sharp Shinned one like she thought too.
Mum went out later to fill the feeders and you can see all sorts of fevvers laying around, plus a few red spots that mum thinks is probably blood. She didn't take pictures of that either
Here is one of mum's better pictures of Mr Hawk from a few years ago as he sat in our crabby apple tree, looking for his lunch.
Me, I did lots of napping, but mum was being silly and put one of my new mousies on me. I am not amused.
Watching Mr. Hawk catch a dove must have been really exciting. We had a really quiet day around here, too. I spent most of the day reading a cat care book to find out the best diet for Herman and what to do about his dry fur. Herman played a bit in the morning, then napped and ate for the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteWow! That must have been really amazing to see Mr. Hawk catch his lunch.
ReplyDeleteWe wish you a very happy New Year!
I hate it when humans get silly. I am glad you got to watch Mr. Hawk for awhile. That must be so exciting!

ReplyDeleteMy goodness, I found a hawk in our back yard the other day. Maybe your Mr. Hawk came to visit down here?!?!? My Lap Lady took a few pictures but it was through a screen. Maybe I can post his picture - he was eating something but I don't know what it was....
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Willow & I are wishing all of you a Very Happy New Year!

Happy new year to you Derby. My mum does that with my mouse too. She is annoying like that.
ReplyDeleteA very Happy New Year to all the participants,my friends.
ReplyDeleteYou must have found it interesting to watch the hawk. Poor dove, but that is part of the cycle of life. Your green mousie is a beautiful contrast with your orange fur. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy NEw Year, Derby! Wow, it's unusual to see a hawk at work actually catching a meal. We have lots of birdies coming to our feeder, they are fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteMindy, Moe, Bon Bon, Cookie & Mike

Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
The poor dove! We're in the city so hawks don't come out here, but we have lots of doves and pigeons. Our new year has been quiet, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Sparrow Hawk that flies into the tree outside our window chasing the little birds. Sometimes the little birds fly into the window trying to escape and stun themselves.
ReplyDeleteMum rushes out to rescue them before we do.
Happy Noo Yeers Derby!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWatching a hawk catch a birdie must've been exciting.

ReplyDeleteThat's some exciting bird watching! We don't get any shows like that around here. Have a Happy New Year.

Happy New Year! Have lots of fun dis year.
That would be sooo cool watching Mr. Hawk in action, Derby! We have bald eagles here at the Lake, but they don't get close enough for us to see them, only Momma and Daddy get to. We hope that you, your Mum and Grampie have a wonderful 2010, furriend!
ReplyDeletePurrs and headbutts,
Sabrina, Sam, Simon and Momma Jan too!
Mr. Hawk seems to think your feeder is his own personal buffet!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you, Mum & Grampie!

ReplyDeleteWe bet you could have caught that dove too, if they'd given you the chance. But still, we're glad the Cooper's hawk had a good meal. We have them around here too, and we've also seen the feathers they leave behind.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me 2 points, and a happy new year to you too!
