Garden Thursday
Our baby robins have hatched. They hatched last weekend (5/21-22) and here is a picture of the mum robin checking out her babies.
You can just barely make out the little bill of the baby on the far right of the nest.
Here mum tried to get closer to get a better picture a week later on 5/27.
Mum thinks she can count for sure three different heads, maybe four. You could barely make them out. Then on Monday 5/30 look how much bigger they are.
You can clearly see one head sticking up as the mum comes with food.
From the north side of the nest, one little guy is so tired, his head is drooping.
From the other (east side), mouths wide open. They stay open pretty much all the time. Just waiting for their mum or dad to come back to drop some food in. They don't make much noise at this point. Ducky knows something is there, he keeps sitting in mum's bedroom window and looking up at corner of the house. Mum has clearly seen four heads when they pop up to get fed.
Mum goes out to look but tries to stay away so not to spook them or the parents. Plus we found a nest in our spruce tree out in front. It was getting late and dark, so we couldn't make out exactly what bird is nesting there. Mum thinks it might be a grackle.
If things go like they normally do they will be leaving the next this weekend!

I have some secret to tell you guys " Here my mom used to heard, Human do not touch the mini birdies..Otherwise the mommy birdy is not come back to feed the baby " if you want them for snack, tell mommy give them a pet !
ReplyDeleteWe has birds nesting here. We are pretty much staying inside cause the bird parents attack us if we go outside for any length of time. A Mockingbird pecked Scylla on the butt the other day.
ReplyDeleteOh, so cool to have baby robins to watch!
ReplyDeleteA few Mays ago we had a house finch make her nest in a hanging basket outside our front door. The mom would carefully take the basket down every day and snap pics (never touching the babies, of course). She was surprised at how quickly they grew and flew away!
ooooo - cat TV. Mom thinks we have birds in the gutter since she sees them flying in that direction and we like to sit on our window box and stare up there too!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have really cool birdy TV right now!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! We wish we had a baby birdy show! We've heard rumors of bats, though!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool episode of Bird TV!
ReplyDeleteDo you feed them kitty kibble?
ReplyDeleteOur robins eat kitty kibble, and take kibble to feed their babies. They've been doing this since the late 1990s. Of course, the kibble is for our kitty visitors.
Wow! You are lucky to get to watch all those little snacks...
ReplyDeleteWe've had baby robins too. We love watching them...'specially the way the mother feeds them.
ReplyDeleteOh how cute!
ReplyDeleteSorry we haven't visited for a while, we had grandbeans staying for a vacation. It's been happy chaos!
