ManCat Monday

In these days of tension, human beings can learn a great deal about relaxation from watching a cat, who doesn't just lie down when it is time to rest, but pours his body on the floor and rests in every nerve and muscle. - Murray Robinson

HiYa, Happy June 1 to all of you and the beginning "National Adopt a Shelter Cat" month. I know there are a few of you who are fancy, pure bred kitties. But we shelter kitties are just as wonderful. I'm a shelter cat, so was Derby. We came from the same shelter.

Matter of fact mum got a letter from them on Caturday. Reminding her to pay her dues for the next year, really just making a donation to help things along.
Dis is my super nice shelter. HAWS, I was there twice, hope I don't have to see them again. But the letter had lots of interesting facts on it.
You can biggify the picture but I will spell it out for you.

ALL Animals accepted by HAWS regardless of age, temperament health or breed

35,000 people who visit the shelter for events, programs and adoptions

8,000 Animals that are assisted by HAWS each year

3,250 Animals spayed/neutered annually with 38% drop in area's stray cats over 10 years

1,000 Dogs helped with MOD Squad training since program began in 2009

6,500 Children (K-12) participating in responsible pet ownership activities

2,500 Pets finding new forever homes with loving families each year

41,000 Volunteer hours spend supporting HAWS and its mission

+50 Years that HAWS has been Building a Society that's Humane

Purrty impressive and just recently they have been caring for over 300, yes 300+, chinchilla's that were taken from a hoarder. The hoarder finally agreed to give them up after the past two months and they just started to get those furry little guys and gals adopted.

My sit-a-thon was a failure. I got furminated and mum cleaned the house good this weekend. Said it was a good thing to do on a cold and rainy day. Mum says I am so much softer now that all the extra loose furs are gone.
Have a good week all.

  1. I will tell you a secret, Ducky - I think you shelter kitties are MORE special than us purebred, "fancy" kitties because you have been through more and are each very unique from the moment you are born!

  7. That really is an excellent job your shelter is doing for kitties and chinchillas and other animals. Hooray for them!
Mom and Dad had one pure bred kitty, an Abyssinina, but all their other kitties have been shelter kitties or ones who would hade ended up in shelters had they not adopted them (like me).

  8. Disappointing to hear about the sit-a-thon. It sounds to me as though you need to practise, practise, practise Ducky. Perhaps aims for extending the time by 5 minutes each weekend.

    Shelter pusscats are the best!

  9. Pawsome facts about HAWS!
Shelters do such wonderful things for pets and we appreciate that they are there..
We rescued Julie before she got to a shelter and she is a sweetie.
We think you are too Ducky :)
While your sit-a-thon was a bust, we bet you feel better.
    You certainly look good!

  10. Shelter cats are special cats! We must not know your whole gotcha story, because we didn't realize you were in the shelter twice. That just makes you double-special.

  16. Saku has just poured "his body on the floor and rests in every nerve and muscle" in front of mom's chair. What a great quote!

Sorry your sit-a-thon didn't work out for you Ducky. At least you gots to snuggle with the mo bean!

Sasha and Sami are both shelter cats, as was our sisfur Silver. Silas and Shady were born outside at our cuzin kitties farm and Saku came from an unwanted litter in a small town. No fancy breeds here...but we sure are spoiled, as it should be. MOL

  18. Yippee for shelter news! Looking good, Ducky! Shhhh, it's rainy here today too. We don't want mom getting the idea to steal our furs.
