Purrade

Mum and Grampie went to the purrade yesterday, they try to sit in about the same place. Close to the start of the purrade and a good place to put the metal monster so they can get home after it is done, not too far to walk for Grampie.Across the street, there is double decker seating.
The first of many color guards coming by.
The War Dogs made an appearance again this year.
Here is a closeup of one of the war dogs. And this year even a few kitties made an appearance.
Slyvester
Garfield
Just a few horsies
Plus a fly over of some Blackhawk Helicopters. At first mum saw three.
They flew right above mum and she got two of them in this shot.
But as they helicopters flew past, there were actually four of them that came to visit.

After the purrade, mum and Grampie came home, did a little bit of stuff outside in the metal monster room. Then mum grilled out for the two of them. Then later mum chopped off the grass again. When she was done she sat down, saw the Oriole come to visit and she also saw two hummers. The first hummers of the season. Hope you all had a rewarding weekend as well.

Memorial Day

Honor and Remembrance to all who have served our country.
Thank you.

ManCat Monday will return next week. We have had a quiet weekend so far. Mum did lots of work mulching the garden, but she finished that on Friday night moving all of the mulch to the back. Otherwise mum is doing simple stuff, working on her crow-shay, watching racy cars on TV.

Today mum and Grampie will be doing the purrade, pictures to follow. Everyone continue having a safe holiday.

Hugs Weekend

It is our second ever HugFest. We started this after, as will happen from time to time, a few our furiends had a dust up. Also it is a way to convey our love to our fellow blogging buddies who are here for us no matter what and to remember those who have gone before.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Plus a big shout out to ML, happy purrthday dear lady! ML does so much for beans, kitties in need and mothering her own Sherwood Bunch. Happy Day to you.

Roosters, Flowers and Fevvers

With Georgia crossing to the Bridge I figured my little trip to the VET wasn't all that urgent to report. But mum took me in Wednesday night for my annual checkup. I got two shots in the bum, one a three year rabies and one distemper. I don't have a temper, why do I need that shot?

Now I am a good kittie, I go right into the carrier and I talked to mum all the way there. Mum timed it so she got there just before our appointment time. However, they were running behind and I had to wait in my carrier, surrounded by woofies. Mum sat with me as far away from those beasts as we could, but one woofie kept trying to get close. His bean said he had kitties at home to play with so wanted to play with me. I didn't want to play with him! I did lots of growling and hissing while I was there, even after I was back out in the car on for the trip home. The woofie Dad was parked next to our metal monster, he said he had never heard a kittie growl like me.Nothing wrong, just the rooster shots and home. Mum gave me some stinky goodness to cheer me up, then I just curled up on my nice bed to rest and pretty much stayed there all night. When mum got up she was worried that I hadn't come into the sleepy room to watch birdies first thing. I am fine, just keeping to myself. I have joined her this past evening on the couch, to mooch treats and get my scritches.
Flowers, our lilacs are in full bloom. Since I would eat them, mum goes out and does great big sniffs of the flowers. She loves lilacs and this dark purple one is one that mum got a start from Grampie's old house.
The crabby apple tree is just about done flowering too, we have pink confetti all over the groundMum saw and heard Mr Oriole singing the other night way up in our tree. We still can tell they are eating the fresh orange halves mum puts out. So we are hoping they stay around and bring babies.

The BlueBird of Happyness is here too. Mum says it is an indigo bunting. Victor said he has seen these guys too at his house. Mum has seen them before, but like once and then not again. We saw one the day we first saw the Orioles, then again twice this week at different feeders.

Here you can see Mr Bunting feeding with Mr Goldfinch. Mum is happy to see these guys around too. Must mean they like our yard and our foods. They entertain me too!

Here's to Aunty Deb

Happy Purrthday Aunty Deb! You take care of yourself now!

As an update to yesterday, the guy in the metal monster room was putting on new door.
Mum says it looks the same from the outside, but the inside is different.
It is thicker and insulated which will make the metal monster room warmer in the winter. Plus a new machine to lift it up that is so much quieter. Mum is furry happy on the way it looks and sounds.
Then as soon as he was done, another guy showed up. Mum picked me up and put me in her sleepy room until he left. He made lots of noise in the dungeon and the heaty spots first blew hot air and then cold air. Mum says we will be OK for keeping cool or keeping warm, as needed.

Then once that guy left, mum left and came back with flowers! Look who came out from hibernation, Phat Flower Eric(PHE)! Mum has already put flowers in him and washed him off.
Virginger and PHE moved to the backyard to sit on a table. Then mum mowed the lawn, again. Then finally she could come inside and sit down. For taking the day off, mum certainly did lots of work today.

ManCat Monday

Cats have incredible vision - but they never see your flaws - Anonymous
I'm not so sure about not seeing mum's flaws. She doesn't give me enough treats, sometimes disturbs my sleeps and all. But I love her anyway.

I will be having extra mum time today. She is taking the day off to do all sorts of stuff at home. There is a guy out in the metal monster room making all sorts of noise. I keep talking to him but he doesn't answer. Mum is busy with washing.

Learning About Birdies

Some of you have commented that mum knows a lot about birdies. Well yeah, but she knows because she looks stuff up in books and on line.
Since we live in Whiskerconsin mum has a book that specialized in birdies that we are most likely to see here.
It has actual flashy box pictures and words that tell you about the birdie. Here you can see Mr Hawk!
Plus she has another book that shows all of North America birdies. Mum uses that sometimes to help her too.
This book has drawings of the birdies, lots of related birdies all on one page.
Then on the other page it tells all about the birdies too. It has maps of where you can normally or usually see these birdies.

Now there are also free online places too that can help like All About Birds. Mum started feeding birdies when she moved out here, and a few years ago particpated in The Great Backyard Bird Count. Now she counts birdies all the time during the winter with Project Feeder Watch. Anyone who likes birdies is encouraged to join and help out with either or both of the Backyard Bird Count or Project Feeder Watch.

Now mum is not an expert, she keeps her fancy flashy box handy to take pictures, then she has time to figure out exactly what birdie we are seeing. Sometimes she is convinced it is a certain birdie by the picture, then she checks where it normally lives and it doesn't live around here! So then she has to start over and figure it out.
Me, I just hang out by the windows and enjoy the birdies, bright colored ones or the brown colored ones, I love them all.

Fevver and Flower Friday

OK, last Saturday we saw Orioles in our yard. So when mum checked the ads in the newsy paper Sunday, they had the Oriole feeders on special sale. What timing!
Orioles will drink nectar, so mum bought a feeder for nectar and the nectar concentrate. Mum saw one of the birdies at this feeder Thursday AM, but couldn't get a picture before he flew away.
She also got a feeder that will hold orange halves and has little cups to put jelly in them, these birdies eat jelly, but not peanut butter. No PB&J for them, just the J!
Mum put out orange halves on this feeder, plus on the other feeder where she put the oranges on the weekend. Yesterday she checked and they had been eaten from, so she has seen them and we can tell they are eating.
Most of the spring flowers are done, but the iris is just opening. The allium is also blooming now too.
Happy weekend!

ManCat Monday

If you saw my post from Saturday you know we got new orange birdies who came to visit. But we had other birdies on Saturday too that I wanted to share with all of you. Red winged black bird and we get lots of them, every day. We can hear them sing and they wake us up in the morning.
Mr Cardinal, always a treat to see his flashy red fevvers.
White Capped Sparrows, the are just passing through on their way to Canada for the summer.
Lots and lots of rose breasted grosbeaks. Mum was reading that in the spring the guys show up in groups. We saw 5 or 6 males at one time, plus another 4 females.

In other happenings, we didn't see the orange birdies on Sunday, but them mum didn't have much time to sit and watch for them either. Grampie came over in the afternoon and they cut a tree down! The tree was just outside the kitchen window and it looked ok to me. But mum said it was over 80% dead.
You can see the trunk of the tree out the window second from left by the blue stained glass thingy. Mum says she will think about what if anything to plant here again. There is a very old white lilac nearby and power lines over head.

Orange Birdies

Mum and I are furry excited. We saw a bird we have never seen before, it is orange and black. Mum says it is a Baltimore Oriole. Please biggify the pictures for maximum enjoyment.

Mum was spending lots of time cleaning this morning, doing the washing stuff. She didn't want to start using the sucking monster until the washy machine stopped on the first load.
So she sat down with me and was watching outside when we saw a bright orange bird in the crabby apple tree. Mum grabbed the fancy flashy box and started taking pictures.
He flew over to the bird feeder, hey, turn around, we don't want to see your spot 13!
That's better, but these birdies don't eat seed like mum usually feeds the birdies. He is looking for orange.
This is orange, but not eatable. Can you see we got over an inch of rain last night? So mum went into the big cold box, got out an orange, cut it in half and put it out by the feeder. This was before lunch time.
Later in the afternoon, mum looked out and Mr Oriole was back having a snack! Woohoo, we have gotten the guy to come back!
A short time later Mrs Oriole showed up too. Maybe they will make their home in a nearby tree and bring their babies around later. Plus you can see a red winged black bird, plus a male and female rose breasted grosbeak.

Mum will have to stock up on oranges, or get a special feeder that can hold grape jelly or nectar to keep these guys well fed.

Plus happy Mum's Day to all of the mum's, both kittie mum's and bean mums!

Me?

No this isn't me, but mum says it sure looks like me! But that is not our floor. (YAY, mum checked in at work and fixed it)

I would like to thank everyone who stopped by yesterday for my Gotcha Day. It took me a long time to get around to thank you individually.

I got lots of love from mum last night, extra cuddles, treats and a whole can of stinky goodness for supper!

Mum will be around this weekend, so lots of time with her. Happy weekend everyone.

Gotcha Day

Four years ago I won mum's heart and she brought me home. I was playful and outgoing with her, not hiding in the corner. So this is my Gotcha Day/My Derby Day. Thanks mum for giving me a wonderful furrever home.
My shelter mug shot, the one that shows me smiling, Smiley Boy, or Benny as I was known at the time. I may be a bit sassy at times, but I do love you. Purrs.

It is getting nicer and nicer every day. Mum comes home and opens more windows, we can listen to the birdies singing early in the day, into late in the day. The birdies are checking out our birdie houses to see if they are suitable for the summer. We saw a sparrow in this house on Wednesday AM.
This is Virginger checking out the house last spring, she hasn't been out to check for new occupants this spring. Plus mum hung out a nice sack of soft stuff for the birdies to help make their nests soft for the baby birdies who will be coming soon. Plus yesterday morning Mr Wren showed up. He is a furry small birdie with a huge voice.

Mum cooks outside more often too. Yesterday she made chick-hen and she shared with me. She bought a big package of chick-hen the other night and let it set overnight in sauce so it gets all extra nice and tasty.
