Orange Birdies

Mum and I are furry excited. We saw a bird we have never seen before, it is orange and black. Mum says it is a Baltimore Oriole. Please biggify the pictures for maximum enjoyment.

Mum was spending lots of time cleaning this morning, doing the washing stuff. She didn't want to start using the sucking monster until the washy machine stopped on the first load.
So she sat down with me and was watching outside when we saw a bright orange bird in the crabby apple tree. Mum grabbed the fancy flashy box and started taking pictures.
He flew over to the bird feeder, hey, turn around, we don't want to see your spot 13!
That's better, but these birdies don't eat seed like mum usually feeds the birdies. He is looking for orange.
This is orange, but not eatable. Can you see we got over an inch of rain last night? So mum went into the big cold box, got out an orange, cut it in half and put it out by the feeder. This was before lunch time.
Later in the afternoon, mum looked out and Mr Oriole was back having a snack! Woohoo, we have gotten the guy to come back!
A short time later Mrs Oriole showed up too. Maybe they will make their home in a nearby tree and bring their babies around later. Plus you can see a red winged black bird, plus a male and female rose breasted grosbeak.

Mum will have to stock up on oranges, or get a special feeder that can hold grape jelly or nectar to keep these guys well fed.

Plus happy Mum's Day to all of the mum's, both kittie mum's and bean mums!

Me?

No this isn't me, but mum says it sure looks like me! But that is not our floor. (YAY, mum checked in at work and fixed it)

I would like to thank everyone who stopped by yesterday for my Gotcha Day. It took me a long time to get around to thank you individually.

I got lots of love from mum last night, extra cuddles, treats and a whole can of stinky goodness for supper!

Mum will be around this weekend, so lots of time with her. Happy weekend everyone.

Gotcha Day

Four years ago I won mum's heart and she brought me home. I was playful and outgoing with her, not hiding in the corner. So this is my Gotcha Day/My Derby Day. Thanks mum for giving me a wonderful furrever home.
My shelter mug shot, the one that shows me smiling, Smiley Boy, or Benny as I was known at the time. I may be a bit sassy at times, but I do love you. Purrs.

It is getting nicer and nicer every day. Mum comes home and opens more windows, we can listen to the birdies singing early in the day, into late in the day. The birdies are checking out our birdie houses to see if they are suitable for the summer. We saw a sparrow in this house on Wednesday AM.
This is Virginger checking out the house last spring, she hasn't been out to check for new occupants this spring. Plus mum hung out a nice sack of soft stuff for the birdies to help make their nests soft for the baby birdies who will be coming soon. Plus yesterday morning Mr Wren showed up. He is a furry small birdie with a huge voice.

Mum cooks outside more often too. Yesterday she made chick-hen and she shared with me. She bought a big package of chick-hen the other night and let it set overnight in sauce so it gets all extra nice and tasty.

ManCat Monday

He is proud of the lustre of his coat, and cannot endure that a hair of it shall lie the wrong way. - Jules Champfleury Yes it is Monday, again. Mum is tired as she spent her weekend chasing around with racy cars and was not around much. I on the other had kept careful watch at home at all times.

When mum got back we actually watched the Derby race. Mum wasn't really sure who might win, so she thought it was cool an outsider/longshot won. Shows that the little guy has a chance to win too.

But mum thinks that spring is really here. They had nice weather, she managed to get down to just wearing a t-shirt instead of a squillion layers to keep warm and dry. Plus she says she will have to get the grass eating monster out today once she come home from day hunting.

Derby Day

It is the first Saturday in May, Derby Day for horsies. My day and a day to watch horsies run fast.
Lots of big purrs to all of The Sherwood Bunch. Everyone get better soonest.

About my big excitement with all of the trucks and water. No water entered my house other than by the pipes like it is supposed to. We alway had water but the water pressure was low for a while. Plus there was some air in the pipes that mum had to get out, but that just means running the water for a minute or two.

Finally Friday

I was waiting for mum to come home on Wednesday but then I noticed all sorts of water coming all over the place. Just like we had farther down the street last summer.
So all sorts of big and noisy trucks arrived and started diggin in the street making a huge hole.

This is right at the end of the spot where mum brings the metal monster into it's room. How will she get home? Mum is resourceful, she just parked the car down the street and walked the rest of the way. Mum says all of 100 feet, she can handle that.
Once they dug the hole, a guy went inside and then the water stopped rushing out. Then a big truck showed up and hacked up stuff to go into the hole.
Then this other big machine pushed it around more into the hole.
Mum had changed her clothes so she went outside when the truck showed up with another load to yak up.
The good news is that the water isn't leaking and with all of the rock, mum can bring the metal monster into its room every night. Mum says she is happy this didn't happen in the winter or we would have had lots of ice. Mum said the guy said the water main broke, probably since they put extra pressure on it when they flushed the fire hydrants!

While mum was out she took a few pictures of the flowers. The hy-a-cinths are all blooming.
Plus a lot of our tulips are blooming too. Ah, it is so nice to have color and flowers again.
Happy weekend one and all.

Farewell Oreo

You will be missed little guy, see you at The Bridge.

ManCat Monday

I gave an order to a cat, and the cat gave it to its tail. - Chinese Proverb

The weather guessers were wrong. We had a fan-tabulous Friday, warm, sunny, open windows. Saturday and Sunday were rainy, dreary and more rain. I spent most of my time napping, mum spent it, well, running around doing stuff.

Friday, April 24, 2009

Finally Friday

The weather guessers say it is going to be nice and warm, which means open windows. Also probably nice foods cooked outside. In this you can see a little piece of meat sitting there for me to nibble on. I like this window as I have lots of place to lay down, plus I am right by where mum sits to eats. That means I can be close to mooch stuff off of her plate.

This is an old picture taken in summer time as all of the plants are nice and green. Mum says all of the daffs are blooming now, a few tulips have opened and the hy-a-cinths are beginning to open too.

So Happy Weekend to all.

Earthy Day

Today we remember the planet we live on, that we have to take care of it so it will last and last for many more kitties to come. Mum filled me in that Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson who was from Wisconsin and was our US Senator at the time.

So what do mum and I do for good old planet Earth? Well the biggest thing is we recycle. The last dare was about recycling so I am re-cycling my post from Sept 13, 2008.

So what do we do, we recycle! I am even recycled! Here I am in our old recycling bin, it was empty except for me. Why do I consider myself recycled? Well this is my second home. I was wasn't just thrown away, I was sent to the shelter to be recycled to a new home. So now I live with mum, living a good life, being reused as a loving companion.
Recently where we live decided to help us do more to recycle, we got these huge carts to use to put our recycling in and they pick up every other week. Plus mum doesn't put the cart out until it is full. Then the truck can drive by our house and not waste energy just putting a little bit of stuff in the truck.
Here is the big cart sitting in the metal monster room. Mum had to move stuff around to make enough space for it.
See it says recycling only on top, plus they now let us put more types of plastic in this to be recycled. We can do number 1-7 plastics, but not the plastic bags. But the bags go back to the store if we get too many.
There is me, the recycled kittie checking out the recycled stuff, bottles, plastic, glass, cans, paper and boxes. It is almost full, so mum will put the cart out next week on Thursday for pickup.

ManCat Monday

Happy owner, happy cat. Indifferent owner, reclusive cat. - Chinese Proverb

I think Chinese proverb is furry true. Mum is happy, I get treated well, I am happy.

Yes I did get some more attention this weekend. Saturday mum spend way more time outside, but it was very warm, over 70F and sunny. So nice that the big windows that go to the floor got opened all the way, a bunch of windows were open, all the way. I sat their and chittered away at the birdies, sniffed the fresh airs and watch mum. Here is the catkins opening from what I posted last Monday. They aren't all the way open yet so mum will take pictures again in a few days.
Here is the for-sith-ia opened, just the bottom of it, plus some other light blue flowers for spring.
Lots and lots of daff's open and looking good in the sunshine.

Sunday was cloudy and much, much cooler and rainy too. So windows were all closed, but that meant mum stayed inside! Which meant I got lots more snuggles, scritches and treats.

She did read her book, but she can keep one hand on me at the same time, or I can sit behind her and read over her shoulder. Then she needed to cook and I joined her to help out. I have to quality control what is happening.
But mum prefers that I stay away from some of the hot cooking stuff so I don't get my nose or paws hurt.
So my favorite spot to watch mum cook is from the top of the big cold box. I am out of trouble but can still snoopervise her cooking. So now she has foods to take to work for lunch, and I got the attention I richly deserve.

Friday, April 17, 2009

Finally Friday

I am still here and still being ignored! Mum keeps going of day hunting, she comes home and then goes outside. More raking and cleaning up the yard.

So I have been spending my time napping more, sometimes watching mum do her thing.

It is getting warmer, mum comes home and opens the windows a bit so I get fresh airs to inhale.

Happy weekend, maybe I will get some attention from mum this weekend.

ManCat Monday

The cat has too much spirit to have no heart - Ernest Menaul

I was practically abandoned this past weekend. Mum spent all sorts of time outside, pruning, trimming, and caring for the plants outside. The result of which is a huge pile of stuff that has to be taken away.
The daffs are blooming finally, the tulips are still coming Mum even found this bush that has nice soft catkins on them, pussy willows she calls them.
Virginger is hanging out in the front, keeping an eye on things, ready to greet any guest who happen to stop by.
I on the other hand am inside watching mum cook her dinner outside. Friday night she did chick-hen and I did get some. Sunday night she grilled brats for Grampie and herself. I was not allowed to have any of those.
Big purrs to MomRobyn who is having her knee fixed today and Miss Peach who is also having some work done Tuesday.

Hoppy Easter

ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE
I LEARNED FROM THE EASTER BUNNY

Don't put all of your eggs in one basket

Walk softly and carry a big carrot

Everyone needs a friend who is all ears
There's no such thing as too much candy
All work and no play can make you a basket case
A cute little tail attracts a lot of attention
Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day
Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits
Some body parts should be floppy

Keep your paws off other people's jellybeans
Good things come in small sugarcoated packages

The grass is always greener in someone else's basket

An Easter bonnet can tame even the wildest hare
To show your true colors you have to come out of your shell

The best things in life are still sweet and gooey

Spring is Here!

Yep we have our first spring flowers, mum got a few pictures yesterday of the crocus out front. She swears they weren't out on Wednesday. The daffs are just about ready to open too.
Then too mum brought out the chairs for sitting outside. And she got the outside cooking thing up and running but hasn't cooked on it yet. She says maybe tonight she will do chick-hen and has them thawing in the big cold box.
The only bad thing about the outside chairs is they block my view from the big windows that go to the flow.

The grass eating monster is back from its tune-up. Mum says she is ready for the grass to grow.
I am ready for the windows to be open all the time, wide open.

Happy Easter everyone.

How Long

I was all stretched out and mum wanted to measure how long I am.
So she got her measure thingy out and put it where I was, guess I am about three feets long when I am all stretched out.

ManCat Monday

In the beginning, God created man, but seeing him so feeble, He gave him the cat. - Warren Eckstein
I did lots of napping over the weekend. We had a nice early part of Saturday, so I did lots of working on my fur tan. Grampie came over and helped mum replace the support beam for the grape arbor. Sunday was cold so I napped more in front of the heaty spot.

But the weather guessers were bad. They kept saying we would get lots of snow starting early in the day on Sunday, rain, sleet, snow. NO! It wasn't bad almost all day. Mum figured she might as well go out and get all of her running around done.
When she got home I sat by her and got my share of attention. Oh, yes, scritches! Feels good. AHHHHH. Leave the Hatchlings alone and keep up the scritches.

Free Rice

There is a game that bean can play about words which helps feed people called Free Rice.

Mum came across this the other day with the word grimalkin. She wasn't sure about this but she is a smart bean and knew that it couldn't be a couple of the words.
She guessed and got it right.
But then don't forget to go to FreeKibbleKat and help feed kitties too!

Happy Saturday, the sun is shining and I am going to go nap in the sun in the front windows. Bye.
