My stripes are subtle but I am proud to be a tabby.
One of my favorite authors shows up here, Jennifer Robson Our Darkest Night. Her books are historical fiction and based mostly in World War II. I think my favorite by her is The Gown.
Eastside Cats mentioned in a comment last week about getting book series books in the correct order. I use the following website.

So if I find a new author or book I am not sure is part of a series I will go look it up. So if it is a series I can find all of the books and start with the first one. Then decide if I like it enough to continue with the series. The Caves of Perigord is almost a prequel to the Bruno, Chief of Police series. The book Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad is a memoir of her cancer battle. She was diagnosed with leukemia at age 22 (now 33). She just recently married Jon Batiste, the musician. They have been together for some times and she mentions him in the book, but not by name.
I finally got my one small outside chore done. Cleaning a pile of leaves from in back of the AC unit. They blew in over the winter and get blocked because the grill sits here over the winter. The leaves were over the tubing. Less than an hour to pull the leaves out, haul them to the compost area, go through the car wash and vacuum the car out. It didn't take long but it has either been raining or too windy to do this.
Still some outside stuff to do, but it means cutting back woody plants and piling up the stuff for the brush pickup in a few weeks. Things I can do when I have time without much fuss and I don't have to worry about hauling the stuff away.
I finished my 74th book yesterday. Looked at last year and didn't hit that milestone until June. So I am way ahead of last year!
Happy reading everyone.
Her function is to sit and be admired. - Georgina Strickland Gates
My function is to sit and be admired! I am so handsome!
We can tell spring is here. Lots of flowers. Out of focus but our four-sith-ia is finally blooming.
Mum bought herself a new chair. The old one the plastic was cracking and the other day when it was windy it got blown to the other side of the yard and showed some broken areas. Time for the trash!
Look who showed up for the nice weekend. Fleur, Glimmer and Trooper!
Have a good week everyone!
Mostly books of various series or authors I like to read. So no real comments here about them. I just read through them and keep going.
The Mike Nichol's bio was interesting, didn't know about all of his early years.
Well, I don't spend money on books. I prefer to read and return to my library, saves me thousands of dollars every year. I don't walk around reading, I don't need to crash into things and hurt myself!
I checked my last book receipt and so far this year I have checked out $1785 worth of books. All that money saved versus buying. Ducky says I need to buy him more treats!
There was also a line to check out, so I browsed the Lucky Day and New Book shelves and found a few more books to add to my list, while I waited to see the line go down. Finally one person ahead, but she seemed to be having issues so I still had to wait. Then I bumped into one of the librarians I know. She was getting ready for the book sale later this week. She no longer needs volunteers as it is a self serve sale. Suggested prices are posted, you put your donation in a secure box, no change given. They actually make more money this way!
Finally got nice enough to get some outside yard work done. Front and side yards done, still have to do the back. Was going to do that today but it is likely to be raining. That is OK, there isn't much to do and the area is smaller than what I already got done. Maybe tomorrow!
Thou are the Great Cat, the avenger of the Gods, and the judge of words, and the president of the sovereign chiefs and the governor of the holy circle. - Inscription on the Royal Tombs at Thebes
Hope you all had a nice Easter. Me and mum spent it quietly. She had one fancy Easter Egg, razzberry flavored inside, chocolate on the outside. No, she did not take any pics!
It continues to be colder than normal, plus the weather guessers are saying the chance for SNOW! sometime early today. Ick, enough already winter. Give it up and let spring take over. Mum has chores to do outside and doing them in the cold isn't what she wants to do. She says her body is too old to have to try to work in cold.
Mum worked on and finished her latest blankie yesterday afternoon. She tried to read, fell asleep. So she turned on the baseball game and did crow-shay.
Moving on! I couldn't get into the James Patterson/Bill Clinton Book. I haven't been much of a reader of Patterson's work anyway, but I have read a few. Kent State is a graphic novel which was my first of that format.
The Julie Chase books are cute. She runs a pet clothing store in New Orleans. Gets involved with helping to solve crimes. Only four books total, I wish she would write more. Last one was published in 2019. Although the author has other series that she writes.
Nightmare Scenario is on the response, or lack thereof of the Trump administration on the pandemic.
Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter was the first of a series of books by Blaize Clement. I just finished the last one. Her son wrote the last few after her death. Not likely to be more, but there was a cliffhanger in the last book. It was like, AHHHHHH, you can't leave me hanging by bringing this character back. Guess the story can continue in my mind, with how I would finish the story.
Only cat lovers know the luxury of fur coated musical hot water bottles that never grow cold.
Yep, we can keep you all warm, all year long! Mum likes it when I sit on her to help keep her all warms.
I wasn't a happy kitty this past weekend. Mum took off on Friday morning and I didn't see her again until Sunday evening. Sheesh lady. Your job is to provide me with a lap!
Not to worry I was well cared for. Auntie Kellie came over everyday to make sure I had my foods, scoop my box and give me some play time.
Where was she? Yeah, off playing with racy cars for the first time this year. The first weekend is usually a long one. Mum was happy to see people she hasn't seen in a while. She wasn't happy with the weather. It was cold, windy with snow showers. Caturday was sunny but a little cool. Sunday, warmer but really windy. Mum was very happy to get home with me. She got all her junk in from the metal monster, then sat down so I could sit on her lap. I got lots of loves from her.
Have a good week everyone!
Good news is that the possible snow Sunday night into Monday AM went north of me. So I woke up to bare ground. Tuesday while I was out you can tell the willow trees are starting to green up.
On to more books. Started the Maggie Hope series with Mr. Churchill's Secretary. The biography of Jimmy Carter was also interesting.
Who Gets In and Why, is a book about college admissions. I never knew how crazy it is now for kids to get into school. I'm so old I don't think any of this was in place back when I was the age for getting into college.
A bunch of non-fiction in the pile below. How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, American Crisis, Uncertain Justice and Gentle on My Mind. All were good and the fiction was all good too.
The ultimate dream of a cat: food that will pet you while you're eating it! - Richard L. Summer
You know we cats want love 24/7! Mum is furry good with giving me love. She even lets me crawl under the covers while she is in her sleepy spot. I get inside and then cuddle up to her side. The other morning I was purring so hard I woke her up!
Hiss, hiss, hiss. We have gotten snow twice in the past week. Not much but enuf to stay on the grass for a while. Mum put the snow shovel away and just let the snow melt from the driveway. It didn't last long. However we are supposed to get more snow today! I want spring!
So me and mum are hanging out inside. Mum reading and doing crow-shay. See the nice colors that are in the new blankie? Mum said the colors would be nice for a baby blankie. Ummm, no babies here, Okay? Mum says not problem.
Yeah, we are in April, but we really don't have spring weather yet. Hoping soon.
Have a good week everyone.
