Garden Thursday

Hello and welcome to Garden Thursday. The weather has been really nice, so mum has been bizzy doing lots of stuff outside.

First she took some bags of dirt to fill in some low spots in the yard. She was tired of stepping in the holes. Then she added grass seed but so far no new actual grass.

Then she has been working on the never ending weeds and cutting off branches on trees that like to grow up in our back fence. Mum sure wishes she could get them deaded so they don't grow back.
But with all of this she has a huge pile of stuff to haul off. She hasn't hauled the stuff to the compost pile in a while, so this will take a few trips to get rid of.
She did get out to the community garden this week. Working on harvesting, tomato, carrots, eggplant and a cucumber.Lots more carrots but waiting for them to get a bit bigger.

Onions getting dried off in the sun and lots of green beans to eat, they are still going strong.

The old netting for the peas, they are done for this year. Mum took down the netting and the posts so they can be stored for next year. Do you spy that orinch thing below? That is a pumpkin and there are two more that haven't started to turn orinch.
This is the group that had the broccoli in the back gone and the middle row are brussel sprouts that aren't producing sprouts at all. They look more like cabbage that hasn't done anything either. So that was a big miss. The garden is winding down now.
So that is all for this week. Love Virginger, Glimmer, Trooper and Fleur.

  1. Your mum and her friends have done outstanding work with that community garden, don't you think Ducky? I've found the pics and info about it very interesting.

  4. The green beans look delicious. The fresh vegetables are the best. Your mum does lots of work in the garden. Those weeds are a pain. Hope the weather stays nice for you. Have a great day.

  5. Look at those veggies!

About those trees, has your mom tried borax? We only say this not because we actually know, but mom had a wisteria on the fenceline at the house that mysteriously died after her neighbor put borax all over the place trying to kill cockroaches. Prior to that, nothing killed it, not neglect nor lack of water. So we're not saying it is the answer but maybe some research is in order?

    1. Borax is a weedkiller so if the neighbour put a lot down I would think it possibly did kill the wisteria.

  6. Your mum has been busy! That’s quite the bounty from the garden.

  7. That's a pretty nice harvest! We don't grow anything edible. The neighbours both in front and at the back have huge vegetable gardens so we "help" them eat the produce!

  8. That is a good harvest but a pity about the sprouts and cabbage. Maybe a different variety would do better. Your mum has worked hard in the community garden and her own.
