Cirque du Mousie

One last mousie showed up. He was hiding in the big windows that go to the floor and I kept pawing at the door which was almost totally open. It was night time and mum turned on the lights to see if she could see anything. She didn't, but since it was time for her to sleep, she shut the door.

So as she got ready Sunday morning to get Grampie for church, she looked over to see me pawing at the closed door. To her surprise she saw the mousie running up and down the screen! Below are pictures of the mousie as it moved around the screen.
Even though mum was ready to leave she wasn't going to let this mousie just sit there for the time she was gone. She was determined to make sure he didn't escape.

So she slowly and carefully opened the door and smacked the mousie with a shoe. It dropped down to the bottom of the door and I kept watch on the mousie while mum went to get a paper towel to pick up the mousie. But then as she tried to pick up the mousie, it ran away! But not far and I was right on it! I pounced on it and then mum smacked it again with the shoe. It was just twitching and then mum smacked it again!

So once she picked it up she put it inside a bag and took it outside to the trash. Mum showed it to Grampie when they got here. It was still dead and Grampie said it looked like a baby mousie. Mum just keeps looking to find where these guys are getting in the house. Must be some small hole that she can't find. She has even paid the Governator to come in but all they do is put out poison or traps. Mum says that she can buy lots of mousie traps for what she pays them and the problem still isn't solved.

No I don't get to eat the mousies. Like Max said, they could have cooties and mum doesn't want me to eat anything that might have cooties on it. Plus just in case the mousies might have been at the poison, mum doesn't want me to get that either!

So since Sunday morning we haven't had any more mousies, so mum is hoping that we got this little family eliminated.

Plus we found a story about a kittie with lots of toes, maybe even more than Mittens, who lives in the UK. He has 26 which they are trying to figure out if this is a record.

  1. The pictures of the mousie were very funny. We hope that you've caught all of them and think it's very good that you don't eat them.

  7. What a sad story! Don't your humans know they are not supposed to kill mice? Under no circumstance are you to kill another being, except of course for food. That's why we, the cats, have to kill them!
The maid and the butler sometimes trap rats that escape us in the "have-a-heart-traps" and let them go out in the desert.
We think that's stupid, they could just serve them to us, right?
But they say Buddhists can't do that. O well.

  8. Derby, you are very smart not to eat the mousies. At least until they invent anti-cootie pills.

  10. Bet that big pawed UK kitty would be good at whacking those mice around. Keep listening in the walls Derby and maybe you can pick up where the nest is with your cat ears.

  11. Derby, you are such a Mancat the way you catch all those mouses! I'm very impressed. You would think those silly mouses would go to a home that doesn't have such a great mouser as you - they don't seem very smart.

  13. You must have something fun in your house that they want. Have you checked your bird seed, Derby? Once (a million years before I was born) Mom had a family of mice who got all fat, dumb and happy on some old bird seed she'd stored in a cupboard! They'd just chewed a little hole in the bottom of the bag and had a regular feast. They all ran away when she shrieked.

  16. That's a good story, Derby. Sometimes mousies come near our 'partment and my momma freaks out. I don't think she could ever take care of them like your momma did. You're right: mousie cooties are gross. Your buddy, Jimmy Joe

  17. Why are all of these mice coming to play with you? I bet your Mom would much rather they stay on the other side of the screen.

  18. Not only COOTIES, but things like toxoplasmosis. Since our good friend Miles has been sick, we've been reading up on that and it's caused by a parasite that can be transmitted to kitties from things like mousies and then on to the humans that care for us!

Maybe you should gargle with some antiseptic or something. You don't want to have mouse breath when you kiss Mia!
