Our readers from years ago may remember Derby's previous incident with a Galileo thermometer. Mum was ready to take one of his lives. You can see what he did back here.
Now mum has two of these Galileo thermometers. Her own, which is glass and hangs in the doorway where we cannot get at it.
Then there is a smaller and plastic version that sits back where the first one did. However this is plastic, so it should be something Derby can't break. This was Grampie's Galileo.
One of the colder mornings mum was watching and caught the one little bulb going down as the room got warmer.
Mum thinks these are so cool and they are really fun to watch when it gets really warms out and more of the little bulbs move around. With the heaty monster in the dungeon we don't let the house get too cold or too hot during the winter. We keep at the "just right" range.
Here are a few more close pics, mum's glass one and the little bulbs.
We have one at our house too! It is really fun to see how it works. I think many people probably do not understand the science of it. Me, being a cat, I don't, but my Mom does!!
ReplyDeleteyeah - we can see the fascination. :) mom loves the pretty one hanging from the ceiling

ReplyDeleteOur mum likes to watch those thermometers too but we have never had one.
ReplyDeleteWe do remember Derby's encounter and you are right those are very neat.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool thermometer! We'd watch those bubbles too. It would be hard not to want to play with them.
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteI like that the first one is so close to that picture frame that says "I've been Purrr-fect"! Ha ha ha ha!
My Dad said he used to have one of those years ago, heck, he might remember the original!
ReplyDeleteWe know THAT gadget, We NEVER touch it. TBT gets REALLY annoyed when we get near it.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a Galileo thermometer. Something happened to it and it fell from a high shelf and broke everywhere. Of course, none of us will admit to having been near it when it leaped to its destruction...
ReplyDeleteOh boy....do we ever remember that infamous incident!!!
ReplyDeleteHow cool to watch them....mom is going to look into getting one. Every time she sees yours she thinks it is so neat!
Wull I dunno but now I'm all wanting one on accounta all them colored spheres. I mean how often do you get to say spheres? Much less colored spheres. How cool! Knowing That Woman she'd plant that thing on the mantle where we could only stare in amazement...after we woke up of course.
