Garden Thursday

Hello and Welcome to Garden Thursday. We had a couple of nice days with warmer weather and mum took advantage to continue to work clearing out the garden.

Leaves getting blown off the trees and into the water bath. Mum takes them out when she can but then the wind brings new ones right back in. Oh well, soon the leaves will be gone and that won't be an issue.

Here is the view of the garden that mum has worked really hard to get clean out. The far end still needs some work. There are a few trees that are growing in there and mum needs to cut them down. She is hoping the leaves come off soon, that will make it easier to see what she is doing. Also to work on all of the stuff right along the fence. To get this done took mum 7 days. Now she didn't work all day on those day. Usually about an hour to cut stuff down, then take that off to the compost pile. She is only allowed one trip a day to the compost pile. She likes the easy pace of not working for hours and hours and hours all on one day.

Since the weather is turning we are starting to see lots of fevvers coming back to the feeders. Fevvers that we haven't seen in months and months. Some are getting a snack before heading south, others will stick around all winter.

Red Bellied Woodpeck is above, and a pine siskin below. These guys will stick around for the winter too.

Yeah, it is about time for us to get tucked away for the winter. We know mum still has work to do outside so we need to snoopervise. She will get it done, but is taking her time.

Everyone stay healthy, safe, wear your masks and VOTE!

  2. Our yarden is beginning to go to sleep too, but the majority of leaves won't fall for another month yet. But, we leave the leaves in place, in hopes of encouraging insects to overwinter; this will be our 2nd year doing this.

  6. Do you know what we saw the other day?? Mom heard some tapping at the front door, so she looked out the window to see if anyone was there and she saw four northern flickers in the nearby tree! Seems they thought the berries on the wreath might be real and were no doubt disappointed. But Mom was thrilled--we haven't seen any flickers since we had the old house!

  7. Sure looks like your mum has more than enough to keep her busy out there. We now have an outside to take care of, too. We're used to apartment living where the outside isn't ours to deal with. Dad's already been out there with the rakes, blower, shovel- you name it! Happy weekend to you.
