ManCat Monday - Temper, Temper

Is temperment related to coat color? Most of the evidence is ancedotal, but so far it looks like black cats are less affected by untoward events, while red or torties care quick to react to stress.
Hmmm. Ginger kitties aren't quite red, but getting there. Maybe that is why I am so quick to put the bitey on mum when I want to be left alone!

We had a totally awesome day yesterday! Record temperatures in the high 70's. Mum opened so many windows, even the windows that go all the way to the floor! So much fresh air, birdie watching, hearing the birdies sing, hearing the wind in the trees and the little noise at night of some other little creatures.

Mum brought out the patio chairs and just sat around! Didn't really do any outside work, she said she just wanted to enjoy the first really warm day. She says she is allowed a lazy day now and then! She talked to the neighbors and met their new baby, who is already 2 months old. We had lots of little sticky things around, making lots of noise. But that is what mum says is nice. Everyone is outside and reconnecting.

  3. Uh-oh, was the Mom bugging you when you wanted to nap? I have had the bitey put on me more than once when I wanted to pet a kitty who didn't want to be bothered at the time.

  4. Oh Derby

Letteme tell you I have a furry bad temper. I am the smallest and the most tempermental in our household. It is a good thing efurryone else is passive because I am the alpha cat.

  5. Hi Derby! My calico sisters are the tempermental ones in this family! But I think we all have bad fur days from time to time. You do look like you are singing and not complaining tho. I hope the nice weather hangs around. It's so nice sniffing the fresh air and hearing all of the birds talk! It makes me chitter a lot.

  6. Momma says for sure color has something to do with temperment. Me and Mittens have calicotude she says. I guess it is an attitude thing.

Sounds wonderful warm where you are. Pretty nice here, but not no 70!!!

  8. Derby, I am a calico, and we are also known to be tempermental. I give the bitey a lot! That is a funny picture of you, mid-bitey.

  10. We had a nice spring day also.

Derby, we know you're not temperamental. You're just being your regular self.

  11. I wouldn't show my temper too much, you might not get any more temptations.

  12. Mommy says I have a temper. I'm very quick to bite especially when my back is touched.

  13. When me Mommy gets Spring fever, she thinks everyone should be hyper and excited like she is. I just have to present the backside and she knows to leave me alone. Actually, that's a dream. She picks me up and tries to carry me around. Since I can't meow like most kitties, I push against her chest and she puts me down and gets the picture. If I put the bitey one her, she thinks I want to play.

  14. Hi Derby!

My name is Lim and I have a blog (along with Mr.A.Cat) which is typed up for us by a human being, Jude, who has fingers.

The Bad Kitty Cats sent me here to see your work and I am very impressed with you.

Such lovely photos--I must encourage my typist to add your link to my Links List at http://limslimericks.blogspot.com without delay!

  16. I really like the new look on your blogger Derby. Your Mom did a great job. It looks like you are telling her about how you like it in your picture. All my Mom did lately is she finally got my seal and catster picture on my site. She wants to put Gizmo, Patches and Cleo's catster pictures on it too, but she hasn't got around to it yet, but she will.

  18. Dear Derby,

I just love a mancat who shows his passions once in a while. Plus we need to keep our pet humans in line...show them who's boss!

You're torturing me with your new photos.

  19. I think you might be on to something. I think I'm pretty chill. Tigey is always putting the bitey on me, though. He has some brown stripeys.

  20. Hmmmm....

Persephone doesn't really have a temper, she's just slippery and and jumps down quick if she's not in the mood for something. I don't mind untoward kitty moments, I'm really laid back to all kitties. Humans though, I hiss at. Well, no, just my OTW. But that's because she mocks me. So we're both pretty laid back and black.

But Grumpybutt is a tuxie and he's GRUMPY!!! He doesn't like stress, he doesn't like stranger kitties, he doesn't like family kitties, and he's pretty hissy with everyone but the Big One, who is his "Awesome Man".

Andy, the last orange cat I lived with was pretty laid back too though. Mostly he only got hissy at me, and then only if I was bugging him when he wanted to nap (which was ALL the time!)

Let us know what your final conclusions are.

  21. I bet your mum was just trying to get that section of paper from you when clearly you weren't done with it. I'd get cross about that too.

  22. Hi Derby,

Maw just recently read something about ginger/orange poodins being more high-strung. Our V-E-T calls Obi "sensitive" because he gets all stressed out and gets bladder infections at the least little thing. So we agree, although Obi is the only orange/ginger kitty that we know purrsonally.

We are glad your mom had a nice lazy day on Sunday.

Thank you for the birthday wishes!!!

  24. I put the bitey on my Foster Mommy's hand once when I was furry young. I didn't like my furrst bath and I showed her. Felt furry furry bad afterwards because she still cuddled me and told me how much she lurrved me.

  25. We only think our white kitty cats had tempers. It looks like you are giving a warning though, our humans should listen. Purrs

  26. We've been having great weather here, too. (But lot's of pollen making everything look yellow-green) Mom and Dad have been sleeping with a couple of the upstairs windows open so we get to prowl the windows all night.

  27. Tigre has some ginger in her coat and she is just as prickly as this. I have heard that orange cats are far more testy than any other colour, but I may be wrong!
